1.  If you are trying to change things like smoking and overeating, focus on just one behavior at a time.  If you try to do too many things at once, you are just setting yourself up to fail.

2. Cut out extreme  words from your vocabulary such as always and never as well as words like ought and should.

3. Ask yourself am I hungry or do I want to eat for some other reason?

4. If you can't cope with tempting foods (like chocolate) keep it out of the house.

5. Learn how to refuse food.  You need not be swayed by guilt or by the agenda of others.

6. Resign from the "clean your plate" club.  forget the adage about there being starving children in who could otherwise eat that food

7. Know portion sizes and be aware of their caloric count.  Underestimating the size of portions can be one of the biggest reasons for weight gain.

8. Believe.  Believe in yourself and your ability to lose weight.

9. Make a committment.  Anything is possible once you set your mind to it.

10. Make exercise an appointment with yourself that must be kept. Taking care of health is time well spent.

11, Don't eat in front of the tv,

12. Don't worry.  Worry achieves little and is energy spent on things that may never happen
