ABOUT DAYTONA BEACH

When people think of Daytona, the word Nascar comes to mind.  And this is where auto racing really got started.  Years ago they used to race on the actual beach itself.  The tradition continues with the massive Daytona Beach Speedway (and Daytona USA tourist attraction.

At the grand height of 10 feet above sea level, the town itself is right on the beach and when the tide is low you can cruise your car on the beach.  The Halifax River is nearby and there is an amusement pier on the beach side.  Also not to miss just to the south is the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse.

Daytona is located in East Central Florida between Cape Canaveral and St. Augustine.  It is about 4 hours driving time north of West Palm beach and is about the same time heading east on I-4 from Tampa.
